Wolves were exhilarated following their remarkable victory over Chelsea on Christmas Eve.

Wolverhampton Wanderers triumphed over injury setbacks to deliver Chelsea a 2-1 loss, presenting their supporters with an impeccable present on the Christmas eve.
Wolverhampton Wanderers pulled off a surprising win against Chelsea, triumphing 2-1 at home on Christmas Eve. This historic match was only the second time a Premier League game took place on December 24th, with the last occurrence happening in 1995. As a result of this defeat, Chelsea now finds themselves in 10th place in the league table. Despite facing injury concerns, Wolves managed to secure a festive victory and continue their impressive performances against top-tier teams this season.
Wolves entered the game with concerns over injuries, but manager Gary O’Neil was delighted with the determined attitude displayed by his team. Additionally, Wolves extended their unbeaten streak at home to six matches, as Chelsea succumbed to pressure in an exciting late match.
The game commenced with both teams demonstrating their intent, yet it was Wolves who maintained their composure and capitalized on their opportunities. Despite early pressure from Chelsea, Wolves’ resilience prevailed. In the early stages of the second half, Mario Lemina scored the opening goal with a header from Pablo Sarabia’s corner.
As the match progressed, Chelsea struggled to find their rhythm and failed to convert their chances into goals. Their frustration was evident as they labored to break through Wolves’ defense. In stoppage time, with Chelsea pushing forward in search of an equalizer, Wolves struck once again. Hugo Bueno delivered a cross that found Matt Doherty, who took advantage of a poor clearance to confidently score Wolves’ second goal, effectively securing the victory..
Chelsea were able to score a goal in the final moments of the match, thanks to substitute Christopher Nkunku, who scored his first goal for the club. However, it was not enough to turn the tide, and the lackluster response from his teammates highlighted the disappointment that loomed over the Chelsea squad.
A GIFT FOR O’NEIL DURING CHRISTMAS
O’Neil received a call early in the morning from the doctor, informing him that Jean Bellegarde was unwell and Craig Dawson was not fully recovered from his virus,” O’Neil stated.
“We had to bring in young players to ensure their availability this morning… It’s an incredible victory considering the injuries we had and having three young players on the bench against a team and squad as big as Chelsea.
“To extract every ounce of effort from everyone available, and for them to come together and not just scrape a win but dominate for most of the game, is a testament to the team. After that, I can enjoy Christmas Day tomorrow.”
As a result, Chelsea now find themselves in 10th place in the league table, a far cry from the ambitions they had at the beginning of the season. For Wolves and their supporters, it was the perfect Christmas gift.
