MakeMyTrip has reported that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent trip to Lakshadweep has significantly contributed to the growth of tourism in the picturesque islands. According to the online travel company, there has been a remarkable surge of 3,400 percent in searches for the Union Territory on their platform.
The surge in tourism interest comes in the wake of a controversy sparked by certain Maldivian politicians who mocked PM Modi’s visit to Lakshadweep. Nevertheless, the government of Maldives has firmly dismissed these derogatory comments, emphasizing that they do not reflect the views of Male.
On Monday, EaseMyTrip, an Indian online travel agency, made an announcement that it has temporarily halted all flight bookings to the Maldives. This decision was made by the founder of EaseMyTrip, Nishant Pitti, who expressed solidarity with the nation. Nishant Pitti tweeted, “In support of our nation, EaseMyTrip has suspended all Maldives flight bookings. #TravelUpdate #SupportingNation.”
