On Thursday, Team India made their return to the longest format of the game as they faced off against England in the first Test of the series in Hyderabad. After winning the toss, English captain Ben Stokes chose to bat on a pitch that offered significant turn. Both teams had three frontline spinners in their lineup. Initially, India, led by Rohit Sharma, started with pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, but they switched to spinners after the ninth over. Up until that point, England had been making a strong start to their innings, but they quickly lost three wickets as the spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja caused havoc in the top order.

After Ashwin took two wickets and Jadeja dismissed Ollie Pope, who was batting at number three, the third wicket fell when Ashwin dismissed Zak Crawley at a score of 20. They have now surpassed the previous record held by Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh, making them the highest Test wicket-taking duo in India.

After Ashwin claimed two wickets and Jadeja dismissed Ollie Pope, who was batting at the third position, the third wicket was taken by Ashwin when he dismissed Zak Crawley at a score of 20. After the initial collapse of the top-order during the first session, Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow made an effort to reconstruct the innings, resulting in England reaching a score of 108/3 by Lunch.
