Alan Shearer has criticized Marcus Rashford for his absence in Manchester United’s FA Cup match against Newport County. Initially, Rashford was reported to be sidelined due to an injury, but it has been alleged that he was actually seen partying in Belfast.
It has been reported that Rashford was discovered partying in Belfast. Shearer expressed his disapproval of Rashford wasting his talents and further commented that the young forward should address such matters immediately. Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has faced criticism from Premier League legend Alan Shearer for his absence in the FA Cup tie against Newport County on January 28, Sunday.
Rashford’s presence was notably absent during the FA Cup fourth-round match against Newport County on January 28th, 2024. Initially, the club attributed his absence to illness, which was confirmed when Rashford missed training on Friday before the match. However, this explanation became controversial when reports emerged that Rashford had been sighted at nightclubs in Belfast on the preceding Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, referred to Rashford’s absence as an “internal matter,” a phrase he reiterated when questioned for further information during a press conference after the Red Devils emerged victorious with a 4-2 win.
Ten Hag’s comments indicated that there were internal discussions or disciplinary measures to be taken within the club regarding Rashford’s behavior.
Shearer has now addressed the issue and strongly criticized the English forward for missing the game.
Alan Shearer believes that something is clearly amiss with Rashford. In an interview with BBC Sport, Shearer expressed his belief that Rashford is currently facing personal or club-related issues. The renowned striker emphasized that Rashford cannot afford to waste his talent and requires firm management.
Shearer further stated that immediate action is necessary to address these concerns, as Rashford cannot continue in the same manner.
“If this is an internal matter, it suggests that something is not right. Marcus Rashford possesses immense talent. We witnessed his discipline last season when he was late to a meeting before a game. However, something is evidently wrong, whether it be in his personal life or his relationship with the football club.”
“He cannot persist with this behavior. It is not acceptable to squander his talent. He requires strong management, someone who can guide him and make him realize that he will regret his actions when his career comes to an end.”
“This cannot continue. It must be resolved immediately. He scored thirty goals last season, but only four this season. When I watch him play, it appears as though he is burdened by the weight of the world. Therefore, it is imperative that this issue is addressed promptly, as he is struggling to cope,” Shearer concluded.
