R Ravikumar’s second film, ‘Ayalaan’, is a delightful and entertaining movie with a charming alien character. However, it falls short of delivering a captivating sci-fi experience as it doesn’t explore the boundaries to their fullest extent.
Director R Ravikumar’s strength remains consistent even after eight years since his debut film, Indru Netru Naalai. He continues to excel in presenting heavy topics in a light-hearted manner. However, unlike his previous film, which had clever surprises and an engaging drama that makes it worth revisiting, it is uncertain if his second film, Ayalaan, will stand the test of time. This is because it plays it safe and consciously caters to a family-friendly audience.
In Ayalaan, Ravikumar does not aim for a groundbreaking concept. The story revolves around a power-hungry scientist (Sharad Kelkar) and his subordinate (Isha Koppikar) who plan to bring about the end of the world using a dangerous crystal. Tamizh (Shivakarthikeyan), a villager who comes to Chennai in search of opportunities, holds the fate of humanity in his hands. He teams up with an alien visitor (named Tattoo!) to accomplish their mission.
