Cristiano Ronaldo, the renowned football player, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the prestigious football accolades, namely the Ballon d’Or and FIFA’s The Best, following Lionel Messi’s consecutive victories in 2023. During an interview with a Portuguese sports publication, Ronaldo voiced his concerns regarding the diminishing credibility of these awards.

Cristiano Ronaldo, the renowned Portuguese footballer, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the prestigious football awards presented by UEFA and FIFA. In an interview with a prominent sports newspaper in Portugal, Ronaldo voiced his concerns about the diminishing credibility of both the Ballon d’Or and The Best award. It is worth noting that Lionel Messi, the talented Argentine player, emerged victorious in both awards during the 2022/23 season. Messi’s triumph in the Ballon d’Or was widely anticipated after his remarkable performance in the FIFA World Cup held in Qatar. However, the legendary Argentine’s victory over Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland in the men’s category of the FIFA Best award came as a surprise to many.

In an interview with Record.pt, Ronaldo disclosed that he refrained from watching the awards ceremony due to his familiarity with the workings of such organizations. The renowned forward made these remarks following his triumphant participation in Dubai’s Globe Soccer Awards, where he secured numerous accolades, notably the prestigious title of the best goal scorer of the year.

The Portugal star, who is about to turn 39, criticized the awards and expressed his belief that they are not based on factual evidence. He made it clear that his criticism was not directed towards any specific player, including Messi, whom he acknowledged as deserving of the award.

“I believe that these awards are gradually losing their credibility. We need to carefully analyze the entire season. It’s not that Messi, Haaland, or even Mbappe didn’t deserve it. I simply no longer have faith in these awards. This has nothing to do with my victory at the globe soccer, but rather it is based on undeniable facts and figures. The numbers speak for themselves, and they cannot be manipulated. This trophy is rightfully mine, and it brings me even greater joy because it is supported by concrete evidence,” Ronaldo stated in an interview with the newspaper.

Currently, Ronaldo is playing for Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League. His team currently holds the second position in the league table, trailing Al-Hilal, the leaders, by seven points after completing 19 matches.
