Franz Beckenbauer’s demise: Rummenigge expresses desire to organize a grand commemorative ceremony for the legendary German footballer at Bayern’s stadium.
Former Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge suggested that German football enthusiasts should fill Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena as a tribute to the remarkable legacy of Germany’s football icon, Franz Beckenbauer.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the former CEO of Bayern Munich, has expressed his desire to arrange a grand commemoration for the late Franz Beckenbauer. This event would serve as a fitting tribute to the life and legacy of the German football legend, who passed away at the age of 78 on Sunday. In honor of Beckenbauer, Bayern Munich has also announced that their stadium will be illuminated as a gesture of respect and remembrance. The entire football community mourns the loss of this iconic figure, whose contributions to the sport will never be forgotten.

Beckenbauer made significant contributions to the world of football. In 1974, he led West Germany to triumph in the World Cup as their captain, and later in 1990, he coached the national team to victory in the World Cup held in Italy. His distinctive playing style revolutionized the role of a defender, introducing an offensive aspect that was ahead of its era. Beyond the field, Beckenbauer played a crucial role in securing the 2006 World Cup for Germany, although his association with allegations of bribery, which he vehemently refuted, tarnished his involvement.

Franz’s passing has left the entire football community and beyond in a state of mourning,” expressed Rummenigge, who had the privilege of playing alongside Beckenbauer during their time at Bayern Munich in the 1970s, in an interview with Bild newspaper. Rummenigge, who served as the captain of West Germany under the guidance of coach Beckenbauer in the 1986 World Cup, which unfortunately ended in defeat against Argentina in the final, proposed, “In recognition and remembrance of his immense contributions, FC Bayern should arrange a commemorative event at the stadium, a place that owes its existence to him.”

Bayern announced on Tuesday that they will illuminate the stadium in the upcoming days to pay tribute to Beckenbauer. The Allianz Arena will be lit up from 16:30 to 22:00 CET with the words “Thank you Franz” as a way to remember the ‘Kaiser’. Additionally, this special illumination will also be visible during FC Bayern’s home match against Hoffenheim on Friday night. The Bundesliga will resume on Friday following the winter break.
