During a recent interview, Narayana Murthy, the co-founder of Infosys, revealed that he dedicated 85-90 hours per week to his work. He emphasized that this immense commitment has not been in vain.
Narayana Murthy, the co-founder of Infosys, has once again grabbed attention by reiterating his belief in working long hours each week. During an interview with The Economic Times, Murthy revealed that he dedicated 85 to 90 hours per week to his work when he was establishing his company.
“I would arrive at the office at 6:20 am and depart at 8:30 pm, working diligently for six days a week. I firmly believe that every nation that has achieved prosperity has done so through sheer hard work,” he stated.
Throughout my extensive 40-year career, I dedicated myself to working diligently for 70 hours per week. Prior to 1994, when we followed a six-day work week, I would devote a minimum of 85 to 90 hours each week. It is important to note that these hours have not been in vain,” he further emphasized.
Murthy’s recent statement has sparked a significant response on the internet. This comes after his controversial 70-hour remark in October, which ignited a heated debate nationwide. One user, identified as X, pointed out that as the owner, Murthy cannot expect his employees to follow suit. Another user echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the distinction between being self-employed or a manager and being a salaried employee.
Another comment on X highlights the importance of not promoting a toxic work culture, regardless of whether you are the founder or not.
In October, Narayana Murthy emphasized the importance of the Indian youth being ready to dedicate 70 hours per week to enhance the work culture of the nation and effectively compete on the global platform. He urged the younger generation to proudly declare, “This is my country, and I am willing to commit myself to working 70 hours a week.”
